I am very pleased to have been returned as one of your ward members during the recent local elections and quite frankly I am still overwhelmed by the level of support I received. I have also been invited again to serve as a Cabinet Member but with a new portfolio. I will be able to expand on the details shortly. Once again, thank you for the confidence shown in me.......... which was reflected in the number of votes I received!

The ward of Chineham, which includes Sherfield Park (Taylor’s Farm), is a great place to live and I would like to say that I feel very privileged to be your Councillor.

I lived in Warbleton road with my family for over 11 years prior to moving to the new estate at Sherfield Park (Taylor’s Farm). We have four grown up children Hayley, Neil, Matthew and James all of whom attended local schools and still live close by.

It has been a great pleasure to serve as your Chineham Borough and County Councillor over the last 6 years. I was first elected to the Borough in May 2002 and then to County in 2005. I enjoy serving our Community and the Borough as a whole and I feel that during this time I have helped to solve many issues for residents whether big or small and have always tried to be responsive to peoples concerns and forthright in taking the necessary action to get things done.

I was elected as a cabinet member in 2006 when Conservatives took control of the Council. I was given the portfolio for the Environment and am now also “Climate Change Champion”. With the support of my Conservative colleagues, my first big challenge and success was to keep our weekly bin collection.

When Conservatives took control of the Council we inherited a very low recycling rate from the previous Lib Lab coalition administration and it was my ambition to substantially improve on this. I introduced an education campaign on recycling which effectively conveys the message to the residents of our Borough that recycling isn't difficult. However, it can be confusing as to what can and cannot be recycled and so my education campaign works along side officers who regularly give recycling talks to schools, community groups and anyone who would like to know more about how easy it is to recycle. We have a full programme of recycling initiatives for 2008. You may have seen that the Gazette newspaper runs a green watch page every week and they have been of immense help by keeping recycling in the public eye.
