Thornhill Way Chineham proposed Zebra Crossing

As part of its 2015/16 Minor Highways Works programme, Hampshire County Council (HCC) has approved a scheme in Thornhill Way, Chineham, for the introduction of a zebra crossing to replace an existing pedestrian refuge to the south of Puttenham Road.

I have for several years campaigned for this Zebra crossing and recently I was successful in securing funding on the minor works programme to allow the scheme to go forward.

The Parish Council has been consulted on the design work for the installation of the proposed zebra crossing and at their meeting on Monday 14th September 2015 members voted to accept the proposals.

The site has been assessed in accordance with HCC policy and the conversion to a zebra crossing is considered to be appropriate due to the frequent pedestrian crossing movements at the site throughout the day with particular times of increased activity at school arrival and collection times.

Following reports of dangerous overtaking of stationary buses, I am also arranging to meet all appropriate bodies regarding the possible reinstatement of the bus lay-by outside the Village Hall.
