Subject: Objection to ref 16/01112/ful construction of a 24MW gas fired energy reserve facility and associated ancillary equipment and components land at Spindlewood Stag Oak Lane Basingstoke
Please see below my objections to the above planning application.
I strongly object to this planning application as I consider the site to be highly inappropriate.
Even though the proposed site is on commercial land in Chineham Business Park, it is adjacent to a children’s nursery, fitness centre and restaurant. It is also alongside a very busy railway line and immediately opposite an established residential area and scout hall. The scout hall runs a nursery school each day.
The visual impact of the power plant on local residents would be colossal and particularly the five 25 metre high exhaust stacks, which will be located adjacent to the railway line and therefore in very close proximity to the homes opposite.
While Centrica states that the emissions from these chimneys would meet current standards, I am extremely concerned about any emissions so close to homes and facilities for very young children. Further noise pollution could also become a problem.
Perhaps of greatest concern, is that the proposed plant would be located next to a major railway route, with considerable passenger and freight traffic which is likely to increase considerably when Crossrail 2 comes on stream. Security and safety concerns surely preclude this site from such development.
