M3 Junction 6 Black Dam Junction – Additional Works

What is happening?
Following safety reviews of the junction since works were completed in 2016, Kier Highways on behalf of Highways England, will be undertaking work at the junction involving:
laying additional road markings to the Ringway East approach
amending road markings at selected locations
removal of the uncontrolled crossing on Barbel Avenue
replacing the bollard on A30 island
realigning the field entrance and resurfacing footpaths along the A30
Work is scheduled to start on Monday 20 March 2017* and is expected to take three weeks to complete.
Traffic Management
In order to carry out the work as efficiently and safely as possible, we’ll need to fully close the Black Dam junction and all approach roads overnight, between 9pm and 6am, when traffic flows are at their lowest.
During the closures, motorway permitted vehicles will be diverted into/out from Basingstoke via M3 junction 7, A30 Winchester Road, Ringway East, Ringway South and A3010 Churchill Way. Motorway permitted vehicles for villages along the A30 will be diverted via M3 junction 5 and London Road.
Non-motorway permitted vehicles travelling on the A30 London Road will be diverted via Old Basing (Park Lane, Crown Lane, Swing Swang Lane and Faraday Road).
Confirmed dates for the works/closures will be displayed in advance on signs at the junction.
Future works
We would also like to provide advance notice of structural repairs which are being planned to the bridges which carry the M3 over the roundabout at M3 junction 6. These works are expected to start in Summer 2017 and are likely to take 10 months to complete.
Traffic management will involve narrow lanes and a reduced speed limit. All lanes will remain open during peak times to keep disruption to a minimum. Further details will be provided once confirmed.
